After taking pictures, we stopped by Bulldog for lunch. I love the nostalgic look and feel of the place in what appears to be a 100+ year old building with weathered floors and brick walls. I tried out the Downtime Wheat, while hubby got a Honey Nut Brown (pictured on left.) My usual beer when we go out is Blue Moon and Downtime Wheat is very similar. I really liked it.
I love that they carry guest brews, too!
So, for lunch, we ordered a BLT panini and a chef salad and split both. The sandwich was pretty awesome. In addition to hickory smoked bacon, it was topped with Havarti cheese. Good cheese - like bacon - makes everything better!!
The chef salad was loaded with meat, cheese and boiled eggs - can't go wrong there. There is a pretty big menu and I'd love to return and try out some of the other items, like the Bulldog Cheese Soup that is made with Bulldog Lager and topped with bacon, the Avocado Pasta Salad, the Portabella Burger or the pizzas.
If you're a fan of craft brews, be sure to check this place out. Great spot to relax over a couple of brews, enjoy a Friday night dinner or pop in for a mid-week lunch. Downtown Whiting is really adorable, too. Once it's a bit warmer, it's a great place to take a stroll - either downtown or on the beach. Oh, and here's a few shots of what the beach and lake looked like the day we stopped. It's been a really brutal winter here in Chicago and Northwest Indiana, but we've had the chance to see the lake more frozen that it's been in a LONG time! It is quite beautiful!
