Cops & Doughnuts

Last year we took a trip up to the Ludington, Michigan area - and of course, I was seeking out some good food spots to add into the itinerary.

I often chit chat with locals to get restaurant recommendations and find out about the best places to stop for a bite. A couple people had mentioned Cops & Doughnuts to me, so I figured it was worth checking out.

I looked up the place and read about the neat origins of Cops & Doughnuts - when the nine members of the Clare, Michigan police department banded together to save a local bakery that had been in operation since 1896 which was on the brink of closing. They named the operation “Cops & Doughnuts” and continued the tradition of baking at this beloved community business.

They have since saved other longtime bakeries, including McDonald’s Bakery in Ludington - renamed the Ludington Precinct of Cops & Dougnuts.

They’re now serving up treats in several locations - the apple fritters are popular (and delicious!), doughnuts of several varieties (the purple-ish glittery Galaxy Doughnuts were a favorite of my kids) and humongous doughnut holes. If you make your way through the Mitten State, keep an eye out for one of their locations! For more info, visit
