Boat House Pub & Eatery Cooks Up Freshly-Caught Fish

Disclosure: The Kenosha Area Convention and Visitors Bureau provided our fishing charter trip and lunch. I was not compensated for this post. All opinions are my own.

Earlier this month I was fortunate to be invited by the Kenosha Area Convention & Visitors Bureau to make a trip up north over the border to go out on a fishing charter.

I was really excited to have the opportunity. My husband and his dad had a tradition of going out most summers on a fishing charter on Lake Michigan. They’d often fish out of Racine, Wisconsin and sometimes out of Waukegan, Illinois. On each trip they’d come back with a cooler filled with fresh coho salmon and rainbow trout. They’d bake it. They’d grill it. They’d smoke it. There was nothing like it.

After out morning on the lake with our crew of six, plus the captain on the “Four Ever II,” we returned to the dock with about a dozen fish. I reeled in one of them -  the first rainbow trout of our excursion. One other boat had also gone out with a pair of travel/food writers, also. So, when both groups were done we met up at the Boat House for lunch. But it wasn’t just any lunch - they prepared the fish that we had literally just pulled out of the lake.

The Boat House has a You Hook’ Em - We Cook ‘Em special. For $11, they’ll prepare your fish three ways - blackened, broiled or deep fried. It’s served family style with cole slaw and French fries. Smoking is also available at the restaurant if you’d like them to smoke your catch.

Lunch was phenomenal. We had coho and rainbow trout and each preparation was delicious. I think it was the first time I ever had deep friend salmon. They also gave us a taste of some smoked fish, as well.

Our day started early, but we had beautiful weather as we went out about 8 miles from shore. It was exciting to pull fish after fish out of the water. And to have our fish preheated and served to us for lunch was just the icing on the cake.

The Boat House has an extensive menu full of lots of seafood as well as steak, sandwiches, pasta, burgers and more. Check out their full menu at boathousekenosha.com. Find out more about Kenosha Fishing Charters, go to kenoshacharterboat.com.
