Maddon’s Post

On my most recent visit to Wrigley Field, I was accompanying my 11-year-old nephew who had participated in a Cubs camp over the summer. Each of the campers was invited to be part of a pre-game parade on the field before a game and I was lucky enough to be his escort.

We had to be there early for a little run-through and then we had to exit and wait for the gates to open. So, we did that and during the lull, we went to Maddon’s Post, just outside of Gallagher Way to grab a quick, light bite with my sister and brother-in-law before heading back into the park.

The menu is described as including dishes from the roots and family recipes of Chef Tony Mantuano and Cubs Manager Joe Maddon. I was drawn to the variety of piergois and opted to try the spring pea pierogi since it seemed like a creative version and one I’ve never had before. On top were picked mushrooms and kohlrabi. I loved the zing of the pickled mushrooms and the light, sweet filling of the spring peas was so refreshing. I adored this take on an ethnic favorite.

I also tried a slice of the wood-fired pepperoni pizza. I’m usually not a pepperoni person (team sausage all the way!), but this pepperoni had the perfect amount of spice and melted in your mouth. That along with the perfectly crispy crust made this a winner.

If you're heading to a game - and even if you're not - Maddon's Post is a cool, modern spot to sit and linger for a while while noshing on some awesome bits of your favorites with a bit of an updated and funky flair.
