Dark Horse Brewing in Marshall, Michigan
One thing I have noticed about SW Michigan breweries is that they are big on mug clubs. Dark Horse might have the biggest mug club I've seen yet. They were all pottery-style steins that were hung from literally every bit of wall or celling space available - all named and numbered. The rack beside our table had numbers in the 4000s.
They had a full menu of light bites, sandwiches, soups, pizzas and other fare, but we had just finished breakfast so just tried a flight. I picked some lighter beers - the Kamikae Witbier, Amber Ale and Scary Jesus Rock Star Pale Ale and hubby picked out some of the dark varieties he likes - the Fore Smoke Stout and Plead the 5th Imperial Stout.
The brewery is located just outside of the charming downtown. The little town has a large number of historic sites and markers and some gorgeous buildings. You can swing by the welcome center and pick up a map that will help you along on some walking tours of the downtown and the historic mansion route.
