Girls Night Out at Stoney Point Grill

On a recent Friday night, three good girlfriends of mine all happened to have a free night and made last minute plans to get together for dinner. We mulled over places to go and since I had an earlier appointment in Homewood and one of my friend’s lives nearby, I suggested Stoney Point Grill in downtown Homewood. Only one of the four us had been there and she gave it good reviews, so we made our way there.

We got there before the dinner rush and had no problem getting a table. We loved the modern decor and the wall of windows that allowed us to see what was going on outside on the unusually warm day. The place was just starting to fill up, but the bar was full of patrons watching sports on the screens above the bar.

The cocktail menu was still full on the winter specials when we were there of interesting flavor combinations and cute names like the “Frostbite,” the “Ginger Snap” and the “Wintry Spiced Cosmo.”

We started with a zesty shrimp appetizer and scanned the specials. Two of us settled on a fish special and the other two on a chicken piccata dish. Everyone gave their meal a thumbs up. My chicken piccata was accompanied by creamy mashed potatoes and charred asparagus. A couple of the girls also tried out the French Onion Soup, which looked and smelled amazing, and produced cheese pulls that seemed to go on forever.

We split the desserts - a delicious blueberry bread pudding and a phenomenal ricotta limoncello cheesecake that I could eat every day of the week. It’s one of the most spectacular desserts I’ve had this year.

By the time we left, the restaurant had filled with a lively Friday night crowd. I’d recommend it any time of day - for lunch, for some small bites in the afternoon or for a full dinner experience. Check out the full menu at stoneypointgrill.com. You can also check out their other locations in Mokena and Palos Park.
