East End Grill: Lafayette, Indiana

Some people travel to see a museum, a national park or attend a festival or sporting event. While there are always many highlights to any of our road trips, food is definitely at the top of my list. I often plan the food first and then work from there. But even after planning, sometimes you end up stumbling across a place that is a wonderful surprise. Dining out is part of every trip and I love discovering some gems or talking to locals who send me to their favorites.

On my most recent trip to Lafayette, I was visiting a zoo and some historic homes. I was walking along the river and exploring the public art. And I was planning out an eating adventure.

One place we went was a random stop as we were walking downtown. When I spotted it I remembered having at least one person recommend it, so we popped it for lunch before heading out of town.

My husband was with me and we always order different things so we can share. I got a very fresh salad loaded with grilled, diced chicken breast. Dressings are made in-house and everything is from scratch.

Hubby opted for steak frites - a six-ounce strip steak with demi-glace along side a massive pile of hand-cut fries and some roasted garlic aioli, which was an ideal dipping sauce for the perfectly-cooked fries.

The place has a chic, classy, upscale vibe that is also comfortable. It's full of darker wood with a cozy vibe as you make your way back, but up front you've got big wall-length windows that provide a dose of sunshine. Staff is super friendly.

I'm glad we stumbled upon this spot for an unexpected, but memorable meal.
