New Petros Restaurant: Hammond
I love a breakfast spot where you can count on a tasty, comforting plate of eggs and potatoes of some form. I was in between appointments while in Hammond recently - hadn't had breakfast, but had a lunch appointment ahead in a couple hours, so wanted something light.
I sometimes forget that when I go to a Greek restaurant, "light meal" is not really in the vocabulary. Portions are huge. I felt like an omelet, but the one they serve had 5 eggs. I knew that was way too much and because I'd be in the car and running errands all morning and afternoon, I didn't want it sitting in a container in the sun in my car. Normally, I'd eat half or less and bring the rest home for another meal, but it wasn't going to work on this unusually warm fall day.
So, I asked the waitress for just one scrambled egg and a slice of bacon. It turned out there was a combo on the menu that didn't cost much more than getting that a la carte. So for about $5 I got this order of scrambled egg (I know that had to be more than just one egg) and I asked for some green pepper in it, hash browns, toast and 3 slices of bacon. Can't beat that. That was pretty much the smallest meal on the menu and I still couldn't finish it. I'll have to stop back next time for the giant omelet and bring a cooler bag with me to bring home the leftovers.
