Scoop Du Jour: Chatham, IL
Last weekend I made my way down to the Springfield area to visit my sweet Aunt Lori who lives in Pawnee and was about to celebrate her 88th birthday. We had such a fun time together in my quick 26 hours there. We went out to lunch at a pizza place she likes, took a drive around a wildlife sanctuary and lake, visited an antique mall, went to bingo fundraiser at her daughter’s church, spent the night on my cousin’s farm, went to a craft brewery for lunch (because I always have to have a Horseshoe when I am in town), spent some time reminiscing and telling family stories, explored the Capitol and took a walk around downtown Springfield and my time with her ended with a stop for ice cream.
She mentioned a place she loved in Chatham called Scoop Du Jour (what a cute name!) So we stopped in for a cone. There was a nice selection of scrumptious flavors.
Butter pecan on a waffle cone was my aunt’s choice. I had two scoops in a bowl - elephant tracks (with chucks of mini chocolate peanut butter cups) and after dinner mint.
I also learned that they had doughnuts! They make them fresh daily on-site and they looked so good. I got a box to take home for my boys and they devoured them. I never even got a bite. But they were some of the prettiest doughnuts I’ve ever seen.
It was a sweet overnighter and I left with my heart and belly full. I had such a nice time making memories with the last living sibling on my mom’s side who I don’t get to see nearly enough. I’m counting down the days until I get back to this special place to see such a special person.
