Shawna Rae’s Treats & Eats; Shipshewana

Shipshewana, situated in the heart of Indiana's Amish Country, is known for pies and fried chicken and noodles. And if you love this kind of comfort food, a trip to the Blue Gate Restaurant for a big Amish buffet is definitely something that should be on your list. 

When we spent a winter weekend in Shipshewana, we had already done the Amish buffet thing and were looking for a place to get something different and we discovered Shawn Rae's. This spot was loaded with sweet treats and the cupcakes were amazing - and just as pretty as they were delicious. As good as those desserts were, I was even more wowed by the dinner entree we got - a shepherd's pie that was the perfect meal for a chilly winter night. And the portion was huge. Two of us split it and still didn't finish it all.

The menu changes weekly with a number of salads, sandwiches, specials and more. If you're spending some time in Shipshewana, be sure to venture out beyond the typical Amish fare and a couple blocks off the main road and give Shwna Rae's a try.
