Locavore Farm Project on June 20 featuring Fetching Market

So last month I had the opportunity to visit the Jones Family Farm in Grant Park, Illinois a.k.a Locavore Farm and fell in love with the place. I was there for a "rehearsal" of their upcoming dine-on-the-land dinners. It takes the trendy farm to fork concept, but places the table right in the middle of the farm where many of the ingredients are grown. And what a table it is. It seats 100 people. Yes, that's right - 100! The table, made by Life + Limb Designs, is a stunning piece of quality craftsmanship.

Your next chance to dine at the farm will be coming up on June 20 as part of the Fetching Market event that will benefit this start-up farm that the family moved into just about 8 months ago. Fetching Market debuted last fall in the Historic Ford Hangar at the Lansing Municipal Airport, focusing on quality vintage and upcycled products and artisan-crafted items. Over 50 vendors will be there for this open-air market that will line the farm property. The day will also include live music, family activities (like fishing!) and the Locavore Chalk Talk series with six guest speakers.

At the market, there will also be four seatings for the Dine-on-the-Land dinner experience. While there will be three upcoming dates with four-course gourmet plated meals prepared by the Cottage on Dixie, this one will be a little more casual with a family style pulled pork meal using local meat and other ingredients, prepared by Stella Bear Foods. Seatings are at noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Get your tickets in advance at FetchignMarket.com or LocavoreFarm.com.

Did I mention that you sit down to enjoy the meal at a table set for 100?

Hope to see some of you there. Dinner tickets are limited, so be sure to reserve your soon. And when you get there, tell them the Chicago Foodie Sisters sent you. :)
