RH Rooftop Restaurant: Oakbrook

I was sitting in the chair getting my hair cut when another hair stylist, Jerry, recommended a restaurant to me. Knowing I'm a food blogger, food is often a topic of conversation when I head to Classy Cuts to get my hair done by Kelly, who I've been going to for well over a decade. She fills me in on the good meals she has been eating and asks where I've been lately. When Jerry chimed in, the place he was urging me to go was RH in Oakbrook and he raved about the food and the rooftop dining. I tucked it away on my list of places to keep in mind.

Last year as I was working on my book Unique Eats and Eateries of Indiana. I paid a visit to the new RH location in Indianapolis, which is in a stunning mansion on a large estate. RH (aka Restoration Hardware) is actually a high-end home furnishing retailer, but the locations also have a restaurant. The Indy restaurant location feels like a museum where you are eating in a room flanked with marble and statues. The food was absolutely delicious.

After my visit to the Indy location, it put the Oakbrook location back on my radar. Then when foodie sister Becky and I were planning to get together for lunch and when she suggested RH, it was an immediate YES!

The food is so fresh and delicious. I couldn't wait to have the gem salad again that I had enjoyed at the Indy location. With us both diving into a healthier mindset in the new year, we went mostly healthy - we didn't realize the artichokes we had ordered would be deep fried, but they were worth the calories.

We asked them to modify the burrata for us with lettuce leaves rather than crostini and it made for a delicious salad.

The filet was pretty amazing. It was a sunny day to enjoy the surroundings. We even witnessed a proposal in front of the fountain near where we were seated. The entire dining room joined in a collective "Awwww" as we saw the young man rise up from his knee and then embrace his shocked new fiancé.

We wandered around afterwards to view some of the gorgeous furnishings and accessories and stunning home decor. It's a lovely experience and I can't recommend it enough if you're looking for a fancy meal in the burbs.
