Jamesport Brewing Company, Ludington, Michigan
While the kids were on spring break this past week, we made out way up to northern Michigan for a few days to chill out and spend a little time together while exploring the lakefront town of Ludington. Whenever we travel we like to seek out a brewery or two to get a taste of some local craft beer. It's always a bonus when food is served there and we can make it into a dinner or lunch stop with the whole family.
Jamesport Brewing Company is located in downtown Ludington and they had a large food menu, so we decided we'd plan on having a meal there during our visit. I'm a big fan of flights so that I can sample a few different brews in one sitting - theirs came with four 6-ounce pours. We tried a Hefeweizen (my favorite variety - and bonus, they placed a slice of orange in it!), a Kolsch, a Nitro Stout and the Maple Bourbon Stout. All got a thumbs up and I wish we'd had an opportunity to stay and sample more, but it was close to closing time and we had to wrap things up.
The kids noticed their favorite appetizer - giant pretzels with mustard and beer cheese, so we got a couple of those and shared them. The boys went for sandwiches - reuben, burger, pulled pork and all agreed that their meals would way above average I got an amazing Apple Brie Stuffed Chicken that was drizzled with sweet habanero and served with rice and asparagus. It really knocked my socks off and is one of these meals I know I'm going to be dreaming about for a long, long time. Definitely more than I expected from a craft brewery as they often lean toward a more casual menu. This meal was deserving of white tablecloths and a pricey bottle of wine. I wish we lived closer to eat because I would for sure be back there next week to have it all over again. Oh, and I have to mention that it is in a uber cool building that appears to date back to the 1880s or so - I need to do more research on that. Beautiful wood floors and a massive wood bar.
