11 Instagrammers to Follow in 2020

Last year I wrote a post that got a lot of views about 11 Instagram Accounts to Follow in 2019. I got a bit of feedback on it and wanted to do a repeat on some favorites that I follow on Insta and I think you should follow, too. Many, but not all of them, focus on food. I spend a lot of time on Instagram and that's primarily where I post when I'm on social media. If you are on Instagram (my favorite platform for sharing food photos), take some time to hop over and check out my faves.

Marcellas Reynolds (Insta handle: @marqueemarc) is one of my favorite people I've ever met. When my niece and I attended a brunch crawl organized by Billy Dec at a couple of his restaurants, we were seated near him and I just adored him immediately. I loved his super happy vibe and he made me laugh. so. hard. He's an actor, model, reality TV star, fashion stylist, TV host and he recently added author to his resume. So proud of this Chicago guy who just published Supreme Models: Iconic Black Women Who Revolutionized Fashion. Follow him for his posts on fashion, food and more.

I don't remember how I first stumbled upon this page, but I'd say this is my favorite foodie page I discovered in 2019. @mike_the_food_dude, Michael Horrobin, is a Canadian teenager who whips up some amazing recipes that look like they could be served at a swanky upscale eatery and were plated by an experienced master chef. Seriously, the photos and corresponding blog posts blow me away! I think he was 16 (maybe it was 15) when I started to follow him. If you follow one new page this year, this should be the one.

This next page is food porn. Plain and simple. And that's what Instagram does best. Check out Alex Jewell (@bestfoodalex) for some drool-worthy shots around the city from the "Chicago Foodporn Director" himself. I love scrolling through his feed (except when I'm heading to bed and should not think about eating another bite of anything). Take a peek. Have napkin handy.

The shots captured on @ilovesaltado are absolutely beautiful. It's a wonderful mish-mash of dishes - some homemade, some eaten in restaurants and kitchens both near and far. And as a fellow writer, I can relate to those posts about scrambling to meet deadlines and trying to be productive in coffee shops.

File this one under my favorite IRL meeting of this past year. There are so many foodie influencers from around Chicago that I follow and from time to time I actually get to meet some of them for real. At a media event at 360 Chicago earlier this year, Michaela, (@chicagolovespanini) recognized me from online and introduced herself and she was THE sweetest person ever. She seemed so excited to meet one of the Chicago Foodie Sisters and was so genuine and just made my day. She also has a GORGEOUS page that she fills with some of the most colorful meals you will ever view. Honestly, so many of her posts incorporate the entire rainbow in one dish. It's often on a decorative dish and photographed outside with beautiful lighting. I hope one day to have a page so pretty. Get over and look and the beautiful content she's putting out. You'll love it!

Of course I love the idea of two foodie sisters sharing a passion, just like my sis Becky and I. I love to follow along with @mcbitechi on where they are and what goodies they're enjoying.

You gotta love a couple that eats well together. Check out the page of these traveling foodies at @yuppieeating to see some fabulous dishes they enjoy while dining out and some of the amazing meals they prepare at home.

I met @alexshebar at a foodie event a couple years ago and have followed him ever since...as he's moved from Chicago to Texas and then to New York. His feed is full of a blend of interesting snaps - some of his stunning wife, some of the delicious food he's eating, some of his adorable pup, some of his travels - and he has a knack for getting the best shots of murals and public art. It's a great big feast for your eyes. And even though he's moved on from Chitown, he makes his way back on occasion like this past summer when he hosted iCrave Fest, a fun event of dessert sampling at Antique Taco in Bridgeport. So follow along to keep up on his food events, as well.

I ended up in a pod with @flos_favorites a while back and I especially loved her posts of eateries in Northwest Indiana since I spend a lot of time there. One day I was sitting in a restaurant in Valparaiso scrolling my feed and realized she had just posted from the place I was at. We missed each other by like 15 minutes.  I have had the opportunity to meet her in real life since then and she's as bubbly and charming as she appears on Instagram. Her posts take her around the Midwest and I enjoy seeing what she's up to and what she's eating.

So, beyond being a foodie and blogging at ChicagoFoodieSisters.com, my full time gig is being a freelance writer, covering mostly travel and food. I met Bisa Myles at a dinner sponsored by a tourism bureau following the Chicago Travel and Adventure Show a couple years ago and have enjoyed following her since then. She's an inspiring lady who is a cancer survivor, took on the responsibility of raising three of her young cousins, is a passionate traveler and avid hiker and just one of those happy, smiling people that just makes you feel good to be around. Follow her at @mylestotravel and also hop over and check out her blog, mylestotravel.com.

Tammy at @xslowdanse has a bright, beautiful feed and makes me envious of all the amazing Chitown restaurants she makes her way to. If you're ever stuck on where to eat or want a visual sampling of some of the best stuff in the city to try, just hop over and scroll through all the awesome locations she's hit. Every post of hers makes me want to make a reservation and get there - like right now.

And don't forget to peek at last year's post - lots of lovely people to follow in that post, too!
