Yoder's Meat and Cheese Company
On a recent trip to Shipshewana just after Christmas we did a little shopping. I can't go on a trip and not go into foodie mode, looking for regional specialties and seeking out unique restaurants. So, at my request, the family pulled in to Yoder's Meat and Cheese Company to get some goodies to bring home.
I was surprised at how big the place was with a long row of refrigerated cases of cheeses (80 varieties) and smoked meats and jerky. There was also a large selection of natural-fed, steroid-free beef and lots of jarred items.
The kids picked out some smoked meats - smoked bratwurst, smoked polish sausage, smoked salmon and some summer sausage. We also got some horseradish cheese and salami cheddar. We loved that there were samples of many different things. Both cheeses are ones that had samples out that day -- had we not tried those, we probably wouldn't have purchased those varieties. Oh, and outside was a little hut with Amish girls offering samples of kettle corn. We went home with two bags of that.
