Ullery’s Ice Cream
When we recently visited Richmond, Indiana, we stopped to visit Ullery's Ice Cream. It is one of a dozen stops on the Richmond/Wayne County Indiana 2019 Chocolate Trail. You can get a chocolate passport at the visitor center and it allows you to present it at each place for a sample. At Ullery's, you can get it stamped to receive a sample of their chocolate ice cream.
The family started out serving up their ice cream at area fairs and festivals, churning it with a vintage 1928 John Deere Hit n Miss Steam Engine. It's still made 5-gallons at a time in this unique way as they've been doing it since 1993.
They serve up 18 flavors of ice cream and have 12 topping for sundaes. Waffle cones and bowls are homemade. They also make an edible cookie dough with out eggs and you can purchase a scoop of it just as you would a scoop of ice cream. They also have a cookie dough ice cream and cookies and cream ice cream among the flavors.
Everything is reasonably priced and I don't think I saw anything over $5 on the menu. There are some specialty sundaes that are huge and delicious that you'll want to try should you stop. I tried the Cookie Monster - a cookies and cream and cookie dough ice cream sundae topped with hot fudge, crushed cookies and whipped cream - and the Richie Rich - made with peanut butter and chocolate ice cream topped with hot fudge and creamy peanut butter, crumbled peanut butter cups and whipped cream. We ordered the Cookie Monster in a waffle bowl. Both were fantastic. I also tried out a chocolate malt that was a delicious taste of nostalgia. If you want to add toppings, you can pay $1 and combine a number of different topping flavors. They also offer a dairy free sorbet. I also love the table decorations - bouquets of flowers inside waffle cones.
The ice cream shop is located in Richmond's historic depot district where you're just a couple blocks away from the Model T Museum, which is totally worth a stop as well for any fan of automobiles or history.
