Butler Winery: Bloomington, IN

So, this past week we were on a road trip that kind of turned into a little wine tour in Southern Indiana. We hit four wineries on our trip (in addition to a brewery and a distillery). Each one was a little different. I enjoyed all of them, but the vibe at Butler Winery was particularly nice. It was a bit off the beaten path, but that’s one of the parts of it that made it so nice. As we sat and sipped we were looking directly at the vineyard. There was no traffic noise, just the sounds of birds and the wind and the frogs in the nearby pond.

Located on the outskirts of Bloomington, this winery has been productive award-winning wines since 1983. They don’t offer any prepared food, but you can select some cheese out of the cooler and some crackers to pair with it, which is what we did. I also grabbed a chocolate bar to have with the sweet wines I seleted. We tried a flight, which had five wines and went across the spectrum from the dry to sweet.

There is a tasting room, but the sun had just come out after raining all morning, so we opted to have ours outside. It was one of the most relaxing parts of our whole trip. I could have sat and lingered for hours. The patio is pet friendly and you’re able to bring in your own food to enjoy with the wine. They also offer live music most Sundays along with other activities like yoga and trivia nights. For more info, visit butlerwinery.com.
