Oakley Brothers Distillery: Anderson, IN

No trip on the road is complete without some good food and drink worked in. Pretty much all of our trips include a stop at a craft brewery or two - and I also love to work in a distillery or winery, as well. Sometimes we come across places that are merely tasting rooms with just very basic snacks, if any. Other times we are blown away by not just the drinks, but the food.

Oakley Brothers Distilling was a great pick - a cool, casual spot that was part of an evening in Anderson, Indiana while on a trip to Madison County. We were heading to a symphony orchestra concert at the Paramount Theatre, which was just a couple blocks away that night and we made our way to Oakley Brothers for some light bites and drinks before the show.

The distillery is housed in a very cool building - a former Buick dealership and showroom, so there's lots of vintage features and plenty of pretty, exposed brick. We stepped through the tasting room and sat at a table facing the distillery floor, which was a little brighter and quieter than sitting at or nearby the bar. We sat and relaxed - but not for long because our food and drinks came out super quick.

We tried a spirits flight, a Whiskey Sour and a Lux Old Fashioned along with a Pizza Margherita, a nice salad with mixed greens, cranberries, nuts and goat cheese - and the duck bacon wontons that OMG good. Really, I have been craving them ever since we visited over 3 weeks ago. It's one of my favorite things I've eaten so far this year. The were stuffed with bacon and duck and a creamy corn filling. I would go back just to have another order of the wontons.

If you're in or around Madison County (just northeast of Indianapolis), this place is definitely worth making a detour for. For more information, visit oakleybrothersdistillery.online.
