Aracadia Ales: Kalamazoo, Michigan

Our first road trip of the year was up to Michigan. I had been lucky enough to win an overnight at the Firekeepers Casino & Hotel in Battle Creek, so hubby and I made it into a little adults-only beercation. In just two days, we hit five different breweries, the last of which was Arcadia Ales in Kalamazoo.

Outside there was a vinyl igloo on the patio so that you could gather inside and enjoy some brew even on a cold winter day.

We had been running around all day and figured we'd get a bite to eat and taste a beer or two before making the 2-hour drive back home. We decided to split a BLT and a mac and cheese, both of which were really tasty. The BLT had a pesto aioli and was on sourdough bread, so it was definitely a notch up from a typical BLT. The mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy and a nice bite to warm us up.

I was surprised to find a saison available in the winter and it's been months since I had one, so we got one of those and I asked for a test of a couples stouts and the nut brown ale that I had remembered sampling at a beer festival.

This place is worth the stop for both food and beer and if you have more time to linger, it's a nice place to hang out - both inside and out.
