Cops & Doughnuts

Last year we took a trip up to the Ludington, Michigan area - and of course, I was seeking out some good food spots to add into the itinerary.

I often chit chat with locals to get restaurant recommendations and find out about the best places to stop for a bite. A couple people had mentioned Cops & Doughnuts to me, so I figured it was worth checking out.

I looked up the place and read about the neat origins of Cops & Doughnuts - when the nine members of the Clare, Michigan police department banded together to save a local bakery that had been in operation since 1896 which was on the brink of closing. They named the operation “Cops & Doughnuts” and continued the tradition of baking at this beloved community business.

They have since saved other longtime bakeries, including McDonald’s Bakery in Ludington - renamed the Ludington Precinct of Cops & Dougnuts.

They’re now serving up treats in several locations - the apple fritters are popular (and delicious!), doughnuts of several varieties (the purple-ish glittery Galaxy Doughnuts were a favorite of my kids) and humongous doughnut holes. If you make your way through the Mitten State, keep an eye out for one of their locations! For more info, visit copsdoughnuts.com.
