Black Forest Birthday

We had recent visitors from Germany - my husband's cousin, Frank, and his wife. Knowing he liked Black Forest Cake, I called our local bakery to ask if they could make one. I'd had the delectable dessert at a few German restaurants in the past and I adore it.

This one didn't quite measure up. It was more atomic cake than Black Forest Cake as it had a layer of yellow cake and some strawberries in between a layer. There were plenty of chocolate shaving, though.   It was still pretty tasty, just a far cry from a true Black Forest Cake.
