Goldmoor Inn

One of the best meals I had this year with one of the most scenic views was in the dining room at Goldmoor Inn in Galena. It was late spring and we made out way out for an overnighter at the inn. It's lovely luxury accommodations overlooking the Mississippi River Valley.

We strolled the grounds, enjoyed our spacious room with sitting area, jacuzzi, heated towel racks, fireplace and large enclosed porch and had a couple's massage in the spa. It was a lovely getaway that couldn't have been more perfect. We also had breakfast delivered to our room and had dinner at sunset.

For a foodie like me, the dining options were as enjoyable as the accommodations, the grounds and the view. We started out with a glass of wine, creamy tomato bisque and some seared diver scallops that were phenomenal. I then had a perfectly cooked Beef Wellington as my entree and hubby had a pan seared chicken with brie, mushroom duxelle and blueberry compote over roasted carrots, wild mushrooms and sweet potato gnocchi. We finished the evening with with creme brûlée. 

Other entrees on the seasonal menu were braised lamb shank osso buco, salmon en croute and white peking duck breast roulade. Some of the best meals I have ever had have been in Galena and I’d include this dinner in that group. A lot of the ingredients are locally sourced and the menu changes with the season.

The restaurant is open to the public for dinner, so you don't have to be a guest to experience this fine dining. That sun setting over the river was quite stunning and makes the meal just that much better. For more information, visit goldmoor.com.
