Johnsonville introduces Chicago Recipe Giardiniera Smoked Sausage

Johnsonville has a new flavor of sausage this summer - one that you'll find only in Chicago. It's the Chicago Recipe Giardiniera Fully Cooked Smoked Sausage. Giardiniera is a popular condiment in our area for hot dogs or sausages. My favorite is the Ditka's variety - a product from the beloved former coach of the Chicago Bears (or if you're from these parts - Da Bears!) It's also great on top of Italian Beef sandwiches, a sandwich that people outside the area usually aren't familiar with. Giardiniera is a pickled blend of veggies that comes in a jar and some varieties are a bit spicier than others.

So, the folks at Johnsonville asked I'd be interested in trying it out. It went on the grill on a warm summer evening. It's fully cooked, so really just needed to be warmed and to add some of those appetizing grill marks. With the condiments on the inside, it was perfect on a bun with nothing else (make that a toasted bun for me.) And, as one who can't tolerate super spicy stuff, I found this to be just right. There was a little heat to it, but it wasn't overpowering.

The sausage is made with premium cuts of pork, giardiniera pieces and is gluten free and contains no fillers. You can find them at Mariano's and other independent retailers through Labor Day.

I have a few coupons supplied by Johnsonville to give away to the readers of Chicago Foodie Sisters, so scroll down for the giveaway entry. The giveaway begins at midnight tonight. You might be a winner and get to try them out for yourself!

The day I made these, I was also testing out the rub from Big Guy BBQ Chicago. Great stuff. Look for a post on that soon.

*Johnsonville did provide a product sample for the purpose of a review. I received no compensation for this post. Opinions are my own.
