Hearty Winter Chili
Winter has not been kind to us in Chicago this season. There have been several days so far this year that I didn't even leave the house. I just stayed in and cooked. And when it's as brutal as it has been, one recipe that has to be on the agenda is chili. It warms us even when it seems like it will never warm up outside.
Each batch of chili I make seems to differ a little. This one was loaded with lots of ingredients, making for a nice hearty winter meal.
Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1/2 diced onion
1/2 diced green pepper
3 cans diced tomatoes
1 can kidney beans
1 can mild chili beans
1 can mushrooms
1 tsp masa
Seasonings to taste:
Chili Powder
Paprika
Black Pepper
Red Pepper
Steak seasoning
Seasoned salt
Celery salt
Oregano
Basil
Brown ground beef with onion and pepper. Drain meat. Add canned items and seasonings. Simmer for an hour.
Hubby decided to put his over rice. :) And because he likes things much hotter than I do, he also added a substantial amount of Sriracha sauce. And he ate it with a fork???
